Admissions Information  for 2008-2009

FOR ALL NEW AND CURRENT APPLICANTS
PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING VERY CAREFULLY

If you have already submitted an admissions application for the 2008-2009 academic year you must RESUBMIT the new application available below as soon as possible.

Lottery Date - April 1, 2008

The New York State Charter Schools Act under Education Law has changed dramatically in regards to admissions to Charter Schools.  The Act was revised in April 2007 and as such all changes apply to the current admissions year at our school.

Significant Change in Admissions Preference for the 2007-2008

Preference for admissions continues to be given to returning students.

Siblings of students currently enrolled at the school will continue to receive admissions preference based on our approved admissions policies.

As per our Authorized Charter admissions preference will also continue to be given to students who wish to transfer from failing schools as per the No Child Left Behind choice program. 10% of new enrollment in each class is reserved for such applications.  If the number of applicants qualifying for this preference exceeds the allocation reserved for those slots then those not selected will remain in the pool and will be ranked according to our other admissions criteria spelled out here.

Prior to the April 2007 revisions to the charter Schools Act Charter Schools treated all students applying from anywhere in New York City the same. The revised law requires that Charter Schools give preference to applicants who reside within the community school district in which the Charter School is located
(District 14 for the WCHS).  This means that even if your child attends a school in the district where our school is located (District 14) unless your residential address is in the district you do not have a preference in admissions.

The WCHS continues to provide the following services for all our students with Special Needs:

SETTS (Resource Room), Individual and Group Counseling, DOE provided Hearing Services, P/T Speech Services, Testing Services of a full-time Psychologist, MSW Social Work Services.

We are now accepting applications for the 2008-2009 academic year.

We also strongly recommend that your child join us for a full school day to experience the WCHS environment. Visits should be scheduled for Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays or Fridays only. We are unable to accept visits on Wednesdays. We can accommodate up to 10 students visiting per day.

DO NOT  list the Williamsburg Charter High School on the New York City Department of Education’s High School Admissions Application.

We are NOT part of the New York City Department of Education’s High School Admissions process.

The ONLY way to apply to the Williamsburg Charter High School is by filling out the application form below and returning it to the school.

If you place us on the New York City Department of Education's High School Admissions Application you will NOT be considered for admission to our school.
