Kristen Assenzio

Reading Specialist

Hi, my name is Kristen Assenzio. I have been a teacher for the past 10 years. A native to Long Island, I found the city was calling out to me as I enjoy a diverse community! I was born and raised on Long Island and have made the move to be closer to Williamsburg Charter High School.

My Education and Professional Background

My undergraduate degree is in Child Study. I began my educational journey at the elementary level and have had wonderful opportunities to teach middle school and preschool. I am currently working on my second masters acquiring a double literacy certification. Both degrees for my undergraduate and graduate degrees were earned from Saint Joseph’s College and I have one more course to satisfy my literacy extension.

My Educational Philosophy

My philosophy is to teach from the heart while allowing students to discover their own abilities to be a scholar and positive leader in our school community. My ultimate goal each year is to help my students reach theirs.
I advocate not only for a child’s educational growth, but for their entire well-being as I believe it is my job as an educator to teach and support the whole child. It is my goal to help encourage my students to look beyond the four walls of our classroom and view the world around them as a place of learning and discovery. By doing this, I hope to instill a desire to become lifelong learners.

“Keep me away from the wisdom which does not cry, the philosophy which does not laugh, and the greatness which does not bow before children.”
